Week Four in the Books

CrossFit

Four down, one to go.

Four down, one to go.

Four down, one to go.

The fourth workout of the 2013 Reebok CrossFit Games Open is in the books. More than 82,000 competitors submitted scores for the ascending ladder of clean and jerks and toes-to-bar.

Most competitors completed Grace with some toes-to-bar on the side during the seven minute AMRAP. The average male competitor worldwide across all divisions finished 66 reps, while the average female competitor finished 47 reps.

If there's only one name that you remember from the 2013 Open, it should be Sam Briggs. Over the last four weeks of competition, the firefighter from Manchester, England has accumulated only eight points with two wins and two third-place finishes on the worldwide Leaderboard.

Briggs won last week, and again this week. She made it through the round of 18 within the time cap for a score of 126 reps. Talayna Fortunato fell four reps short of Briggs for second place worldwide on 13.4.

There's something about the Ranch in Aromas, Calif., that spurs Jason Khalipa to greatness. Midway through a CrossFit Level 1 Seminar at the Ranch, Khalipa and Miranda Oldroyd took on 13.4. By the time the clock hit the seven-minute mark, Khalipa had finished his third clean and jerk into the 21s for a score of 129 reps. Hungarian competitor, Lacee Kovacs, followed two reps behind for second, and Rich Froning Jr. followed three reps behind Khalipa for a six-way tie for third.

Although Froning hasn't won a single Open workout, he is in the lead with only 17 points. The 2009 CrossFit Games champion, Mikko Salo, follows in second with 43 points.
