Road Trip to Regionals

OK, Clark Griswold: It’s time for handstands on the road.

“The only people for us are the mad ones, the ones who are mad to lift, mad to squat, mad to be fit, desirous of everything at the same time, the ones who never rest or put the bar down but burn, burn, burn like fabulous yellow roman candles exploding like spiders across the stars.”

Jack Kerouac might have written that if he even lifted back in ’57, so we’ll appropriate it now with eight sets of epic CrossFit road trips on deck.

Starting May 19 and ending June 4, the global CrossFit community will begin its annual migration to eight locations where the Open’s top athletes will try to prove they deserve to be among the few who will compete to be named Fittest on Earth in August. If you’re a Regionals competitor, you’re probably using the #roadtoregionals hashtag to show us how you’re preparing—or you should be.

The pressure is off the rest of you—those who will point the hood ornament at the horizon or window-seat your way through the skies to cheer on your favorite athletes and teams. Pack your coolest Nanos, charge your phone and selfie the living shit out of a road trip that’s likely to rival Kerouac’s if you replace all the drugs in “On the Road” with workouts and handstands in weird locations.

For the road warriors, we offer the #roadtriptoregionals hashtag. CrossFit’s social-media tsars are standing by to watch and share your shenanigans, and we have free subscriptions to the CrossFit Journal for the cleverest and most creative posts. Also available: great gear from CrossFit Stuff and 10 US$100 gift cards from the good people at Reebok.

Here’s the deal: Starting now, post your pics and videos to Instagram with the hashtag #roadtriptoregionals, and mention @crossfitgames.

The athletes are showing us how they’re training for the competition, so tell us how you’re preparing to live historic on the Fury Road to Regionals. We want to see what you’re packing, who you’re going with, how you’re getting there, and how you’ll stay fit on the road.

We also want to see selfies with your favorite athletes and teams, creative workouts, drop-ins at boxes and pics of your new CrossFit friends. Maybe teach someone to squat and convince him or her to check out a local CrossFit affiliate. Have fun and be creative.

Each week, we’ll award stuff from Stuff and free CrossFit Journal subscriptions so people can check out premium content including the ever-popular “Behind the Scenes” series.

Hit the road, work the #roadtriptoregionals hashtag and have a blast.

Then it’s on to Wisconsin for the 2017 Reebok CrossFit Games.
