"Training with the team has been amazing. Some days I don’t want to train, but when I get there, I just feed off of the energy and that's something I was missing."

Veterans Angie Hay and Chelsea Miller shocked the Canada West Region this year after announcing their decisions to compete on their respective teams rather than compete as individuals.

Since 2010, these two athletes have consistently been a force in the top 10 during the Games season.

Miller first started CrossFit in 2009 to get her fitness levels up for the Fire Academy acceptance test. After meeting coach and owner Brent Marshall, and completing her first workout, she was hooked.

The following April, Miller decided to give Sectionals a shot. To her surprise, she finished first and advanced to Regionals. With an eighth place finish that year, Miller was hungry for more.

Meanwhile, in Victoria, British Columbia, Angie Hay was also training for a shot at the CrossFit Games.

In 2011 and 2012 Angie Hay placed first at the Canada West Regional. After two years at the Games, Hay finally decided to give it a break to try something new in 2013.

“When you train by yourself, its just you, your thoughts and nothing else,” Hay says. “When you don’t want to train that day, you don’t have anyone to pick you up. Training with the team has been amazing. Some days I don’t want to train but when I get there, I just feed off of the energy and that’s something that I was missing.”

After a back injury in 2012, as well as several life changes, Hay decided it was time to focus on life outside of CrossFit. Hay stays humble.

“I just hope to add some value to the team,” she says.

At the end of Day 2, CFC Crew and Team Taranis are separated by just two points, in second and third, respectively. Day 3 will be a battle for the second spot to the Games.
