Camille Leblanc-Bazinet and Irving Hernandez notched the world’s best scores on Open Workout 14.2, and will take home the second of five weekly cash prizes.

Both athletes will receive US$2,014, and turn their attention to the next challenge, which will be announced at 5 p.m. PT on Thursday, March 13.

Open Workout 14.2 was an ascending ladder of overhead squats and chest-to-bar pull-ups. If you missed it, here’s how the Open Workout 14.2 worked: At 3-2-1 … go! an athlete tried to get two rounds of 10 overhead squats (95/65) and 10 chest-to-bar pull-ups in less than three minutes. If the athlete completed the work within the time cap, the athlete would wait until the clock hit the three-minute mark and then start two rounds of 12 overhead squats and 12 chest-to-bar pull-ups. Again, if the athlete completed that work within three minutes (3:00-6:00), the athlete would wait until the clock hit 6:00 and then start two rounds of 14, and 14. Etc., following the same pattern until the athlete could not complete two rounds.

Last Thursday night, Camille Leblanc-Bazinet and Talayna Fortunato went head-to-head minutes after Dave Castro announced the workout. The two multi-year Games competitors made the chest-to-bar pull-ups look easy as they strung together the reps with seamless butterfly kips. Leblanc-Bazinet faltered in the set of 18s, and did not complete the two rounds within the 15-minute time period. Fortunato went on to the set of 20s alone, and finished the first round of 20 overhead squats and 20 chest-to-bar pull-ups within the 18-minute time cap. With 320 reps, Fortunato set the score to beat.

Over the next four days, several women beat Fortunato’s score, including 2012 Reebok CrossFit Games second-place finisher Julie Foucher, who has returned to the competition after taking a year off to focus on medical school. Foucher and Kelley Jackson led the worldwide Leaderboard with a tied score of 353 reps until late Monday night.

Leblanc-Bazinet tried the workout again at CrossFit Invictus, and completed 404-reps. Leblanc-Bazinet made it into the 22s, and completed one round of 22 overhead squats and 22 chest-to-bar pull-ups before the clock reached the 21-minute time cap.

Three-time South East Regional competitor Irving Hernandez caught the attention of Games fans three years ago when he posted a video of his 1:56 Fran. This week, he put his pull-up skills to good use when he completed 396 reps in 21 minutes. Hernandez beat the next best man, three-time CrossFit Games competitor Rich Froning, by 37 reps.

Hernandez is credited with 396 reps, which was validated at his affiliate. However, his submission video cut out the last part of his workout and 365 reps were recorded on film, which is still good enough for the highest men's score worldwide and $2,014.
