CrossFit Training and Education will offer free CrossFit Level 1 or 2 courses to all podium finishers.

In addition to the usual prizes presented to podium finishers at the CrossFit Games Semifinals, CrossFit Training and Education has a new prize to offer this year’s winners.

As in this year's Occupational Games, all podium finishers in CrossFit Games competition divisions will receive one free spot at a CrossFit Level 1 or Level 2 Certificate Course. This means the top three women and men in the individual, age-group, and adaptive divisions as well as all four competitors on each team in the top three will receive free course entry.

Additionally, at the Lowlands Throwdown, Granite Games, Atlas Games, and Extreme Rock Brasil competition at Copa Sur, the top man, woman, and team in each community division will receive a free course.

CrossFit Training and Education course prizes also will extend to podium finishers at the CrossFit Games this August. (See Appendix C of the official rulebook for more details.)

The L1 Is for Everyone, But Why Should Top Athletes Take It?

Many of CrossFit’s top athletes are CrossFit coaches or affiliate owners — two groups that can draw obvious benefits from CrossFit Training and Education courses. But as anyone who has attended the L1 knows, these courses are worthwhile experiences that have something for everyone. Whether you want to improve your movement, your nutrition, or just learn more about the CrossFit methodology, the L1 is a great place to start.

And as 21st-place 2021 Games finisher Chandler Smith learned at a recent L1 hosted by CrossFit Southie in Boston, Massachusetts, even those who represent the very best in the Sport of Fitness "never outgrow the basics.”

Smith claimed the Level 1 helped him build a stronger foundation and address movement inefficiencies — something that could earn him precious seconds on the competition floor this August.

Smith also noted the L1 helped him improve his snatch, a movement he said he already considered a strength. And though movement standards sometimes vary by competition, as athletes learn in the athlete briefings before their events, both the L1 and L2 can help them develop more familiarity with the standards for CrossFit’s foundational movements.

The Difference Between the Level 1 and Level 2

The Level 1 provides an introductory education on the fundamental principles and movements of CrossFit. It is the starting point for anyone seeking to improve their health and fitness through effective training and nutritional strategies. Athletes, prospective coaches, and gym owners take the Level 1 to acquire the foundational training that will help them become fitter and healthier or help others become fitter and healthier using the CrossFit methodology. The L1 can be taken in person in various locations around the world or online from anywhere.

The Level 2 Certificate Course is an intermediate-level course that builds on the concepts and movements introduced at the Level 1 Certificate Course. This course is ideally suited for any CrossFit trainer serious about delivering quality coaching. Level 2 participants enhance their understanding of the CrossFit methodology, program design, and implementation. They also advance their skills while coaching others in movements and workouts.

Winners of the L1 and L2 prizes at the CrossFit Semifinals will have one year to complete their free course. These prizes are nontransferable.
