Heading into the 2025 CrossFit competition season, we are establishing the CrossFit Athlete Council to ensure athletes and affiliates from across the CrossFit community have input on CrossFit’s protocols for competition, safety, broader athlete welfare, and future events.
The idea for an independent CrossFit Athlete Council stems from feedback we’ve heard across our community for a forum where athletes and affiliate owners, who are so core to the athlete experience, can come together and deliver recommendations to the CrossFit team. We know the sport of CrossFit is unique and fueled by a passionate community of athletes. Our goal for this new council is to act as an advocate and a resource for the community by serving as a conduit for athletes and affiliate owners to communicate with CrossFit HQ.
Unlike prior CrossFit councils, this Council will be elected by the community and will represent athletes and affiliates from all divisions of competition. The three committees representing the CrossFit community will be:
- Individuals and Coaches
- Affiliates and Teams
- Divisional (Masters, Teenagers, and Adaptive)
We’ve officially opened the application for active community members who participated in 2024, including Individual Semifinalists, Team (captains only) Semifinalists, all Masters, Teenagers, and Adaptive CrossFit Games athletes, and all current affiliate Licensees of Record (LOR) who had five or more athletes registered for the 2024 Open. As our most recently competitive athletes, we feel this is the ideal group of CrossFit athletes to collect timely recommendations and feedback.
Applicants must meet the following criteria to be nominated:
- Must hold a current CrossFit Level 1 (CF-L1) or higher trainer credential. (Applicants who are registered for, but have not completed their L1 will be considered.)
- Must be associated (i.e., coach, athlete, owner) with an affiliate in good standing.
- Must actively engage in the competition season.
- May not be a current full-time, temporary, and/or contract employee of CrossFit HQ.
Key responsibilities of committee members will include:
- Proactively engage with athletes and constituents from their group to gather feedback and be able to effectively represent their needs and desires.
- Work with CrossFit HQ to share feedback and discuss issues relevant to sport.
- Help communicate the outcome of these discussions to their representative cohorts.
- Schedule meeting cadence and facilitate meeting agendas.
- Manage committee member representation going forward.
Council members will serve a two-year term, except for the first year where half of the council will be rotated in order to engage as many community members as possible at the onset.
Athletes eligible to apply for the committees have received an invitation via direct email. The deadline for self-nominations is Dec. 17, 2024.
Once all nominations have been collected and verified, a voting form will be sent to the same eligible community. The nominees with the most votes will be chosen for the CrossFit Athlete Council. We expect to finish voting by the end of December and announce the first Council members before Open registration begins on Jan. 15, 2025.
