"The CrossFit community is not only physically strong, but some of the most giving and focused individuals I've ever met."

“CrossFit for a Wish,” hosted by CrossFit 702 and the Make-A-Wish Southern Nevada, is holding its inaugural event on September 22 where they will raise money for a foundation that grants wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions. The Las Vegas gym plans to host this event in conjunction with the grand opening of its new, 12,000 square-foot location and all of the Las Vegas area CrossFit affiliates are scheduled to participate.

"I thought we could start our own annual event using a workout to raise funds for a non-profit," Jared Glover, owner of CrossFit 702, says. "One of the ladies in our gym is a part of Make-A-Wish Southern Nevada and she had approached me about considering their organization in the future for a fundraiser. We put the two together and came up with CrossFit for a Wish.”

The Make-A-Wish foundation is the nation’s largest wish-granting organization, and has granted more than 200,000 wishes since their inception in 1980. That’s a child’s wish granted every 40 minutes.

“The CrossFit community is not only physically strong, but some of the most giving and focused individuals I have ever met,” Make-A-Wish staffer and CrossFit 702 member, Brandie Sipel says on why this partnership is so natural.

CrossFit 702 has high hopes for the success of CrossFit for a Wish. "We are thinking anywhere from 75 to 150 participants, which I know is a wide range, but we figure since this is the inaugural event we're not quite sure what to expect,” Glover says. “I always like to set the sight high, so the hope would be that we can have 200 people involved.”

The September event holds great promise for Make-A-Wish Southern Nevada, as well as CrossFit 702. "We just moved into this new location about two months ago and it is 12,000 square feet, so about three times the size of our previous space,” Glover explains. “It was a big jump for us, but at the same time it's going to allow us to host and put together more events like these to keep spreading the word of CrossFit and expanding our reach into the Las Vegas community."

Glover and the participants will be doing just that as they go through three rounds of five stations of burpees, kettlebell swings, lateral jumps, push press and rowing, spending one minute at each station, working for max reps with a one-minute rest between rounds.
