What Is the CrossFit Open?

The CrossFit Open is a three-week, worldwide competition that is for anyone and everyone, regardless of fitness level or ability. For some, the Open is a chance to test their fitness and see how much fitter they’ve become over the past year. It is about putting themselves out there, showing up, celebrating fitness, and connecting with others in their affiliate and around the world. For others, the Open is a chance to scratch their competitive itch and strive for Quarterfinals. For a select few, it’s the first step in qualifying for the CrossFit Games

When Is It?

The CrossFit Open will take place from Feb. 26-March 16, 2026.

How It Works

Structurally, the Open is a series of three workouts spaced across three weeks. Individuals can do the CrossFit Open workouts from anywhere: their affiliates, at home, in a park, or even on a beach — although you might find yourself eating sand if the workouts call for burpees! The Open follows the same cadence each week.

Tune in on Thursdays at 12 p.m. (noon) Pacific Time for the live announcement of the workout. Then, head to the CrossFit Games website to view the workout details. You have until Monday at 5 p.m. PT to do the workout and submit your score online. At the end of each week, you can see where you stack up against the world, in your age group, and within your division by viewing the worldwide CrossFit Open Leaderboard.

Why Should I Do the CrossFit Open?

Participation in the Open means something different to everyone. It’s a great way to track your progress, gauging where your strengths and weaknesses lie. For many, this yearly check-in on their fitness is the main appeal of the Open.

When you complete the Open workouts, you’ll be placed on a worldwide leaderboard, allowing you to see where you rank against hundreds of thousands of other CrossFit athletes. You can customize your leaderboard with hashtags to see where you rank against others who share your lifestyle, profession, age, location, and more.

Many also find great value in the competition aspect of the Open. By completing and submitting scores for all three Open workouts, you will be:

  • Eligible to advance to the next stage of the 2026 CrossFit Games season, the Quarterfinals. The top 25% of athletes from the Open will advance.
  • Eligible to compete in the Community Cup later in the year.

Forming a Team

Any licensed CrossFit affiliate gym in good standing with CrossFit may register a team, or multiple teams, for the Team competition. Teams will consist of at least two individual men and two individual women who validly register for the Open.

LEARN MORE

All team athletes who complete the Open are eligible to compete in the Online Semifinals. Teams competing in the Open will also have the opportunity to compete at select In-Person Semifinals to earn a ticket to the 2026 CrossFit Games.

A Reminder on Submitting Scores

To be eligible for the Community Cup or to continue in the 2026 CrossFit Games season, you must submit your workout scores each week by Monday at 5 p.m. PT*. Then, your scores must be confirmed by either:

  1. Performing the workout at a validly licensed CrossFit affiliate in good standing and receiving validation from the affiliate manager; or
  2. Uploading a working YouTube link of your workout to the CrossFit Games website.

The 2026 Judges Course

To develop, refine, or refresh judging skills prior to the Open, individuals are encouraged to complete the Judges Course and/or the Advanced Judges Course, available online at CrossFit Courses.

Completion of the current year’s Judges Course is also required for all CrossFit Games Affiliate Managers.

Passing this year's version of the Judges Course and the Advanced Judges Course are some of the prerequisites for someone judging athletes participating in Semifinals and the CrossFit Games.

You are able to purchase the Judges Course at a discount when you bundle with Open registration and the exclusive 2026 Open T-shirt.

The Advanced Judges Course is sold separately here. The Advanced Judges Certificate is valid for three years. In order to register for this course, you must have completed the 2025 CrossFit Judges Course.
