2025 Age-Group Semifinals Update: Judges With Expired CrossFit Credentials
April 11, 2025
It has come to our attention that a small number of judges for the 2025 Age-Group Semifinals athletes had expired CrossFit credentials.
According to the competition requirements stated in the 2025 Rulebook, an athlete’s workout must be judged by both a Floor Judge and a Head Judge who hold a current CF-L1 or higher to receive a valid score.
Many of the involved athletes took the extra step to secure a Head Judge from an outside entity, where they expected a qualified judging environment. Unfortunately, they did not receive that.
While the onus is on the athletes to confirm the correct credentials, since this is a new process and the affected athletes believed their judges were credentialed, we will be dedicating extensive resources to review submitted videos and update the athletes’ scores based on the outcomes of the review.
To ensure a fair outcome and uphold the standards of competition, CrossFit will proceed with the following course of action:
- All affected scores will be temporarily changed to zero after the close of the public review period on Friday, April 11, at 5 p.m. PT.
- CrossFit’s internal review team — composed of qualified judges — will then conduct a full video review of each of the affected workout submissions.
- Athletes will receive new, modified scores based on the outcome of those reviews.
- All updated scores will be reflected on the leaderboard prior to finalization on Monday, April 21, 2025.
This is a one-time exception we are extending to help the athletes and judges involved in this incident adapt to the new process. Athletes involved have been contacted by CrossFit.
We expect all athletes will ensure their judges are qualified for all future events, including the Team and Individual In-Affiliate Semifinals. Athletes participating in the upcoming Semifinals competitions will NOT be granted an exception if their judge is found to have expired credentials.
