Another C2 Challenge
The Concept2 Indoor Rower is ideal for challenges of all kinds. In last year's Games, a 1K row launched the hopper WOD. This year, Concept2 gave away an indoor rower to the top male and top female 1K row times. They've also invited all affiliates to participate in their Fall Rowing Challenge.
Greg Hammond from C2 sent over this link to a BBC Sports video. In it, Andy Hodge rows 100m in 15.5sec. If there's any distance that CrossFitters might take an elite rower, this is probably it. Anyone got sub 15sec?
Check out C2's article in the CrossFit Journal on how to take advantage of the power of the Performance Monitor.

i'll give the 100m row a try and let you know. have never even thought of doing this distance.
16.0. think i can go faster. i'll give it another try on saturday.
15.8 today
Will give this another try tomorrow after a 2k. for some reason I sprint faster after doing long distances.
nice going adam. this is definitely doable.
Thanks Ken, you're right this is definitely doable. I tried it again today. Got a 16.3 the first time, and then a 15.9. I think if I gained 10lbs I could break 15.5. Jason Khalipa should be able to do it under 15 or Johnathan Burns. Don't they both have sub 1:20 500s?
15.2 today. Was pulling 1:13, 1:14/average 500 M but kept pushing myself off the seat! I think I can get the sub 15 tomorrow.
Damn guys! I guess I'll have to give this a go too! Let's get some video up as well.
Is it just me, or do those two guys have crazy long arms and legs?
alex
yeah they look tall. helps a lot in rowing. that's about the only thing in crossfit where being tall is an advantage.
adam
khalipa would have a lot of power for a short burst. he could do it. so could johnathan. i think he rowed a 1:18 500m. sick.
way to go silverback!
I rowed in college and going 100m was always fun… lowest I have seen is 13.8.
I have also herd that a few guys on the national team get it below 1:00 average split for a couple strokes. (Although I have never seen it with my own eyes) But if they can go 5:45 on 2,000 meters I don't see it being too far fetched. (which they do) considering that is right about a 1:25 split for well over 5 mintues.
Last Thursday at Crossfit Eastside, we did 4 rounds of the 100m row. I got the best times, so I am posting them: 17.2, 15.6, 15.2, 15.1
15.5 exactly I think I can go faster, I would much rather do that than 100m sprint repeats
For the times to be legit, the flywheel has to be at a complete stop before you begin rowing.
13.8
We just had a college kid who's a lightweight distance rower on crew try this and he did it without warming up and only pulled in the 16's our affiliate best is 16.3 and its an ongoing challenge everyone loves trying-we do come off the seat quite a bit. Jon Welborne is my pick but silverback! I cant wait to tell everyone at the box 13.8 is otherworldly!
What setting? Everyone is posting kickass times, but what's the resistance setting?
