Thoughts on the Games
The unexpected is what I am looking forward to, hence the beauty of CrossFit. I don't consider myself one of the "CF Immortals," but I feel I can be relatively competitive amongst the field of athletes.
Having been a former elite cyclist who raced in the U.S. and Europe, I thrive on hard competition. However, being a full time dad and cop, it's a different story. I have been out of the competitive circle for a while and I miss regularly battling it out with other athletes. In addition to my other duties at home and work, I am a member of the "SSD Health & Wellness Team" where I teach department members to improve their overall health and performance by implementing classes on diet principles and CrossFit instruction.
Diet
Zone. About 21 blocks per day keep me at my optimum weight and athletic potential. My family and I have been doing it for a couple years now and have great success with it. I am fairly strict with it, occasionally allowing myself something extra here and there.
Mental
I am not overly nervous about competing, as I feel pretty comfortable in my current fitness level and recent progressions. I program many of my own WOD's where I usually integrate a heavy strength component into MetCon routines to get the results I want or need. I also mix in max effort days regularly but, that being said, my only area of concern will be the CFT. A nagging back injury has been slow to heal and I have been staying on the cautious side of going real heavy for max gains. Other than that, I feel great. I am looking forward to a hard and heavy hopper WOD and the trail run. I have a couple exercises that I would rather not see come out of the hopper, but I am not about to jinx myself by telling the world what they are!
In the end, I am simply looking forward to competing at the Games, watching the other amazing athletes, and getting to know and interact with the other competitors!
