Aloha! My name is Dezi and I have been Crossfitting since July 2011. I’m amazed at my results, how strong I have become and the obstacles I have achieved. I have the most AMAZING CrossFit family. The encouragement, dedication and motivation are contiguous at our gym and it’s a great feeling to finish your WOD’s together as a team! No matter your score, you’re a winner in my book and you should be proud of yourself for taking the challenge and dedicating yourself! Go gettem’ Tiger!
How I Eat
I weigh and measure my food
I eat strict Paleo
I eat 1-3 full cheat meals per week
When I lived in Northern California I had no issue losing weight, eating Paleo 80/20 and keeping the weight down. But since moving to Texas it’s been a huge battle for me. If you have ever been to Texas, you know what I’m talking about. The food is so dam good! Two weeks ago I was diagnosed with high cholesterol. I blame all the eggs and good ol’ bacon ;) So now I’m eating items that are low in cholesterol, low in fat and watching everything I consume. I’m calorie counting and allotting myself 1500 per day. I’m also measuring and weighing my food. I’m giving myself 1-2 cheat meals/beers a week. I’m on day 11 of my 2 month challenge and already down 4 pounds. 03.07.12
How I Train
I workout mostly at a CrossFit Affiliate
I record my workouts
My 1st Box and 'home' is Crossfit of Fremont, Fremont CA. Jeff the owner not only is an amazing Coach but an awesome friend. He trained me personally to help me with my 1st competition. I had amazing results and I learned all the fundamentals through his gym. I relocated to Houston, TX and found a great group of people at Crossfit Roughnecks. We have amazing Coaches and we sure do know how to party with our bi-weekly open gym on Friday nights. I work out only at Crossfit, I log all my work outs in my journal, I love the myWOD app and I also use Instagram as a tool to promote living a healthy life style (my user ID is dezcarmen) and share my journey.
My Athletic Background
I played youth or high school level sports
I played college sports
I’ve been an athlete all my life. Played several sports in high school and even played college soccer. Prior to Crossfit I was focused on competitive kickboxing for 5 years. I was introduced to Crossfit July of 2011 and I never returned to kickboxing. I drank the Crossfit kool-aid and couldn't be happier!
My Experience With CrossFit
I have completed the CrossFit Level 1 certificate course
I have had a life changing experience due to CrossFit
I train other people
Crossift has changed my life forever. I’m not the greatest athlete, I have my battles with certain movements but every day you have to challenge yourself and work on your weaknesses. I did take my Crossfit Level 1 certification a few months ago; I will need to retake my test this fall. I’m a horrible test taker. Back in The Bay Area I had a running team I coached and I have also trained several friends and family members. I’ll help anyone who wants to make a difference in their life. My goal is to coach Crossfit for Kids. Last year I was diagnosed with a throat tumor. My Crossfit family was my support through it all. I’m thankful for finding such an amazing organization!
My Work/Rest Schedule
I do multiple workouts in a day 3+ times a week
I strictly schedule my rest days
Well when life is going as planned I’m doing double WOD’s 5 times a week and giving myself 2 days off. But in the last year I’ve had some major changes happen in my life so I haven’t been training or staying consistent like I wish. When life is crazy or I’m traveling for work, I’m shooting for at least 4 WOD’s a week and some cardio if I can squeeze it in.
How long have you been doing CrossFit?
I started Crossfit July of 2011 and as long as I'm breathing, I won't stop!
