My Athletic Background
Before CrossFit I mainly trained for pageants and wasn't concerned with being "strong" or "fit". I only wanted to be "skinny". I had never lifted heavy weights in my life. My 10lb free weights were all I needed right? HA! CrossFit has really changed my views on what is attractive or healthy. I now want to lift as much weight as my body will possibly allow, I no longer weigh myself, I am constantly improving and competing with my former times and PR's, and I LOVE the way I look and FEEL. When people say "it's not a sport, it's a lifestyle" it's true! It really has turned my life around for the better. I can't imagine going back to the way things were...throwing my time away on the elliptical, hating my life, and counting calories. GROSS.
My Experience With CrossFit
I began CrossFit with a coach (e.g. at an affiliate)
I have had a life changing experience due to CrossFit
It took my now husband nearly 6 months to get me to just TRY CrossFit. I remember checking the main site and there was a photo of some lumberjack looking dude flipping a GIANT tire. My response, "YEAH RIGHT! I'm not working out with a bunch of DUDES, flipping tires in some dirty garage!" HAAAAHAAAHAAA!!! After my first WOD/near death experience at CrossFit Havoc in Lawton, OK I was ADDICTED. I couldn't move, EVERYTHING hurt, and I wanted to cry during the WOD. Nonetheless, I couldn't wait to go back! I drank the Kool-Aid and couldn't put it down!! I really do put a lot of credit into my first coach Jim Denofa. He lit the fire within me with his encouragement, patience, and knowledge. My second box, Southern Pines CrossFit kept that fire burning and I continued to learn more with every WOD. The sense of community within the sport is incredible. I find a new "family" each time we move. My current coach, Nicole Spitzack of CrossFit SolaFide has instilled a new fire within me with her nutrition background. I've learned so much about what I should fuel my body with for optimum performance. Applying it is the hard part ;). It is hard every time we have to move and I have to leave my "family" behind. The positive side is that I get a new "family" to add to the list each time, making me a well rounded athlete.
