Despite living in the United States his entire life, Phil always converts pounds to kilos, and when you first see him in his purposefully mismatched crew socks, side split shorts, and Rogue performance t-shirt (and wrist wraps, and headband, and lifting belt, and knee sleeves, and tape on every finger….), he looks the part. But alas, Phil is a consummate middle-of-the-packer with a bad back and something weird going on with his right elbow. After completing each Open workout, Phil inevitably returns to his desk job on Monday to scroll through the thousands of names ahead of his on the leader board and contemplate all of the things that (just barely) kept him from posting a truly great score. Oblivious to his limitations, Phil attacks each workout thinking, “this could be the one that propels me to compete amongst the elites, allowing me to quit my job to instead work out all day and hawk protein products on social media.”
