I grew up doing gymnastics, I wasn't great by any means, just did some competitions, but was never at any sort of elite level, stopped when I was 13 after doing it for 10 years. From then, I basically stopped doing any sorts of sports other than whatever was required in high school. I started skiing and skating a couple of years back to spice up the west coast winters, and that was my first experience getting back into doing anything active. My Dad suffered a second heart attack just over a year ago, and I really started thinking seriously about getting fit. I was hoping I could encourage him a bit by taking my own health more seriously. Especially since my Dad knew me to be pretty lazy when it came to physical activity. My boyfriend had been doing Crossfit for a few years and I finally decided to take a fundamentals class. I could never motivate myself in the past to do anything on my own at a gym, so I figured this was my last ditch effort into getting fit. After suffering through fundamentals, I just kept coming back. I'm not great at all, and it's been an uphill battle, but I see progress, I do get better, and I've also had some set backs, slight injuries and little growing pains of getting moving again. All I know is that I am getting better, and I'm getting stronger. Everyone at my gym is so nice, they always encourage me and make me feel supported, they inspire me, so I keep coming back! Challenging myself to do the open. Bring on the pain!
