I am a recovering alcoholic who found CrossFit a couple months after I quit drinking. Initially, it was something to do, a way to burn off all this crazy energy I had, and a way to focus on something other than the fact that I wasn't drinking anymore. But it became quite literally a way of life, and CrossFit has become a key component in my addiction recovery. In CF there is exercise, but also a community I feel accountable to, a schedule, a regimen, a diet, and a hell of a lot of fun and discovery. CrossFit has absolutely changed my life -- to the good.
