How I Eat
I eat quality foods but don't measure the amount
In the last year, after finally getting motivated to start a fitness routine (16 years after leaving active duty Marine Corps) I've started modifying my diet. Cutting out ths junk food, reducing my soda consumption (was up to 6 per day), and increasing my protein intake. Don't do a lot of "rabbit food", so I'm trying to find things that are palatable.
How I Train
I workout mostly at a CrossFit Affiliate
My wife and I joined 812 CrossFit, just over a year ago. I was pretty inconsistent for the first 9 months. After working through some pretty severe knee pain (the Marine Corps is hard on joints and the PT wasn't really conducive to good form or function) I finally started making workouts at least 3 days per week. I just completed my first month with actual CrossFit workouts (1 per week). Is it ever tough on this out of shape old man! I am seeing great improvements in my fitness. I actually ran a full 3 miles for the first time in 16 years! My clothes are falling off, though my weight has remained pretty constant.
My Athletic Background
I played youth or high school level sports
I played soccer and ran some track in school. Joined the Marine Corps in 1991. experienced my first knee trouble in boot camp, and it dogged me throughout my time on active duty. After getting out in 1996, I basically stopped working out. tried P90X 3 years ago, but never enjoyed it.
My Experience With CrossFit
I began CrossFit with a coach (e.g. at an affiliate)
Joined 812 CrossFit about a year ago, doing non-CrossFit workouts. Started actual CrossFit training a month ago.
My Work/Rest Schedule
I usually only do 1 workout a day
I typically rest 4 or more days per month
Since I'm an Air Traffic Controller, I have a stupid, rotating schedule which makes having a consistent wourkout routine nearly impossible. Each week, my workout days/times change. I did a "double" just to see how I'd perform. big mistake! I did a 6 AM "Bootcamp", and a 7 PM "Hardcore" ; workouts which include cardio, functional, and CrossFit elements. I was crippled for 3 days afterward. I'm going to need another month of 3-4 workouts per week before I try that again.
