Mizar Fuentes-Ortega is a former gymnastics Québec champion (1998), certified level 1 CrossFit instructor at MFO Training, CrossFit athlete, and martial artist (Jeet Kune Do under Sifu Patrick Chan). His coaching career started when he was 15 and he first started instructing gymnastics at a recreational and pre-competitive level (kids ranging from 4-16 years old). As a gymnastics instructor, he coached for 8 years and obtained a gymnastics level 1 certification. After retirement from his gymnastics career, he began practicing martial arts. Looking for ways to improve his physical abilities to its natural limits, he started CrossFit in 2009. Since he first started, he continued to pursue his development as an athlete and coach in both disciplines. Crossfit Games Results Crossfit Canada East Open 2014 – 24th Crossfit Canada East Regionals 2013 – 44th/46 Crossfit Canada East Regionals 2012 – 30th/46 Crossfit Canada East Regionals 2011 – 26th/60 Crossfit Canada East Regionals 2010 – 39th/55 Crossfit Canada East Regionals 2009 – 26th/69 Gymnastics – Athlete and Instructor Mizar trained for 7 years at Rikigym gymnastic club. Through his career, he won several individual competitions, but particularly, the Québec scholar championships in 1998. He was rewarded with the Athlete of the Year trophy for the periods of 1997-1998 and 1999-2000. As an instructor, he coached for 8 years and has a first level certification which allows him to teach recreational and pre-competitive groups. Martial Arts He is currently studying Jeet Kune Do under Sifu Patrick Chan (2008 – present). This particular martial art concentrates on the proper utilization of human biomechanics. Balance in motion, timing, and adequate measurements of the distance are key concepts that are studied.
