I'm a 49 yo husband, father or four, anesthesiologist, member of the LDS church, and CrossFit athlete from the Columbus, Ohio area. I started CrossFit during the winter months of 2011. I competed in the 45-49 Masters Division of the CrossFit Games in 2012 and 2013, and narrowly missed qualifying in 2014. I've come to recognize the difference between doing CrossFit as an exercise regimen, and competitive CrossFit. Hoping to keep myself in good shape as I prepare to enter my 50's later this year...
How I Eat
I eat quality foods but don't measure the amount
In general, I try to watch both the quality and quantity of my diet. I've found that by eliminating sweets and junk food from my diet, I'm able to eat more of the good stuff. As a consequence, I'm full most of the time and don't feel like I'm dieting.
How I Train
I workout mostly at a CrossFit Affiliate
I try to hit my crossfit affiliate (CrossFit New Albany) 5-6 times a week, usually in the early morning. If I have anything left later in the day, I might do some lifting or work on skills in my garage.
My Athletic Background
I played youth or high school level sports
I participated in football, wrestling and track all four years in high school. I had the most success in wrestling, being a two-time state champion (Missouri, div. 1A-2A). I've always tried to keep myself in reasonable shape, but by the time I was 39 I had ballooned up to 220#. For my 40th birthday I prepared for and competed in an olympic distance triathlon. Over the last four years I have participated in several running, biking, and triathlon events. But nothing could have prepared me for CrossFit. I joined about two years ago. I now weigh about 190-195# and I'm more lean, flexible, and capable than I've ever been.
