The 2013 Reebok CrossFit Games has been nominated by the readers of SportsTravel for two SportsTravel awards, including the Best Professional Multi-Discipline Event and Sports Event of the Year.

Since its inception in 1997, SportsTravel magazine has served the sports-related event industry, recognizing those who organize and manage sporting events. Last year, CrossFit won its category for the first time after finishing second in the same category the previous year.
This year, the seventh annual CrossFit Games is in the running with the 19-year-old ESPN X Games, 30-year-old Wrangler National Finals Rodeo, and 33-year-old GoPro Mountain Games, as well as fellow upstart, 10-year-old Dew Tour Beach Championships.
The CrossFit Games has come a long way since 2007, when it was a small gathering of friends at a ranch in Aromas, California. In 2010, it moved to the tennis stadium on the campus of California State University Dominguez Hills. Fans sparsely populated the stands that year; three years later, the venue set record attendance figures.
CrossFit responded to the immense demand by expanding the competition to the neighboring 26,000-seat soccer stadium at the now StubHub Center. Events that summer used more of the campus, and allowed more fans to get closer to the athletes.
Like few other sports, the CrossFit Games are supported by a global community. Seven hundred fifty CrossFit enthusiasts from around the globe traveled to Carson, California, to volunteer their time. Volunteers moved barbells, stacked weights, built Rogue rigs, and performed countless other tasks to ensure the competition ran smoothly.
The 2013 Reebok CrossFit Games featured hundreds of athletes, multiple venues, never-before-seen equipment, never-before-performed events, and all of it spanned multiple days with live webcasts, broadcasts, and real-time reporting in print and social media platforms.
Gaps in the competition were filled with free performances by Tyga, X Games Gold Medalists Lance Coury and Terry Adams, and more.
It’s an honor for our young sport to be nominated for these awards for the fourth consecutive year. With the X Games and other longstanding sports in the same division, it will take the support of our community to push us to the top.
